The 26th Annual Rower Inistioge Golf Classic took place in the beautiful surroundings of New Ross Golf Club on Thursday, 8th May. Blessed with fantastic weather and a course in pristine condition, the day saw some outstanding scoring, with Robert Dunphy's team claiming top honours with an impressive 96 points.

A large crowd gathered in the clubhouse for the prizegiving ceremony, where our special guest, the ever-popular Marty Morrissey, presented the prizes. Marty generously stayed on to chat with Noreen Roche and Pat Treacy, much to the delight of all in attendance.  As a token of appreciation, Marty was presented with a specially prepared hamper by Willo and Liz Deevy, featuring their delicious Taste of Goodness sauces. He was also gifted a stunning watercolour painting of Wysteria House by talented local artist Edel Treacy. 

It was also an emotional evening, as Club Chairman Mick Roche paid tribute to the late Richie Tierney – a much-loved clubman who had been part of the Golf Classic organising committee for 26 years and had recently taken on the role of Chairman. Richie’s contribution to the event and to the club was immense, and his presence was deeply missed.

The passing of Mícheál Ó Muircheartaigh, a patron of the Golf Classic and an icon of Irish sport, was also marked with heartfelt reflection.

The Golf Classic remains the club’s single biggest fundraiser and plays a vital role in supporting the capital development of our facilities. We extend our sincere thanks to the organising committee for their dedication, to everyone who took part, to New Ross Golf Club for hosting us, to our generous sponsors, and to Marty Morrissey for entertaining all with his trademark warmth and humour.
